Gaza fishermen come under Israeli fire


Gaza - Ma’an - Gazan fishing boats in the As-Sudaniyah and Al-Wusta areas of the Gaza coast came under fire Friday morning as Israeli warships patrolling the waters launched an attack.

Witnesses reported seeing sporadic attacks on boats in the area since sunrise, with shells heard all along the coast.

While no injuries have been reported, intense explosions caused streets to empty and citizens to take shelter in their homes.

PCHR report 17-30/2009:5 fishermen abducted

At approximately 09:45, 3 Israeli gunboats stationed opposite to al-Waha Resort in the northern Gaza Strip besieged a fishing boat belonging to Zaki Khalil Abu 'Ouda, 48, from al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, when the fishing boats exceeded the warning signs placed by the Israeli navy.  They ordered the five fishermen who were on the boat to follow them towards the Israeli Ashdod Harbor.  At the approximately 22:30, IOF released the five fishermen, but the whereabouts of the boat are unknown.

At approximately 05:45, Israeli gunboats opened fire at a umber of Palestinian fishing boats opposite to al-Waha Resort in the northern Gaza Strip.  No casualties were reported.
