PCHR weekly report 10-15/12/2009: 5 fishermen abducted by Israeli Navy

At approximately 14:30, Israeli gunboats opened fire at a Palestinian fishing boat.  They then besieged the boats.  They forced 5 Palestinian fishermen who were on the boat to jump into water and arrested them:

1.    Mohammed Sa'id Abu Riala, 23;

2.    'Aatef Sa'id Abu Riala, 23;

3.    Mahmoud Sa'id Abu Riala, 18;

4.    Fakher 'Emad Abu Riala, 23; and

5.    Ramadan al-'Aklouk, 22.

The boat was also damaged.  Israeli naval troops took the fishermen and the boat to the Israeli Ashdod Harbor.  The fishermen were interrogated there and were released at approximately 00:30 on Wednesday, 16 December 2009.

Rafah under attack

GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) and Israeli gunboats fired at Rafah homes and Palestinian fishing boats south of the Gaza Strip on Saturday, local sources reported.



They said that IOF navy boats opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the Rafah coast but no casualties or material damage were suffered.



The sources added that IOF soldiers also opened their machineguns at Palestinian homes east of Rafah city as warplanes and reconnaissance planes continued to hover over the Strip all daylong.

· In the morning, Israeli gunboats stationed to the west of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats. Palestinian fishermen were forced to sail back to the coast. No casualties or damages were reported.

At approximately 11:30, IOF gunboats fired several shells at a Palestinian fishing boat which was approximately 300 meters from Rafah port. Belal Mohammed Khalil al-Najja, 23, from the Swedish village, sustained wounds by a bullet to the abdomen. Al-Najjar was transferred to Abu Yousif al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah for treatment. Medical sources described his wounds to be moderate.

Ministry: Gaza fisherman shot by Israeli navy

Gaza – Ma’an – Israeli naval forces shot a Palestinian fisherman on Wednesday whilst he was fishing near Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The Agriculture Ministry in Gaza stated that fisherman Bilal Muhammad An-Najjar, 20, was shot in the stomach by Israeli naval officers.

The ministry stated that An-Najjar was fishing one km from the Rafah shore line and was taken to Abu Yousef Najjar Hospital, describing his injuries as moderate.

Additionally, the ministry remarked that the Israeli occupation holds responsibility for the fishermen’s lives.

Israeli military officials said they were investigating the claim.

Gaza fishermen come under Israeli fire

Gaza - Ma’an - Gazan fishing boats in the As-Sudaniyah and Al-Wusta areas of the Gaza coast came under fire Friday morning as Israeli warships patrolling the waters launched an attack.

Witnesses reported seeing sporadic attacks on boats in the area since sunrise, with shells heard all along the coast.

While no injuries have been reported, intense explosions caused streets to empty and citizens to take shelter in their homes.

At approximately 09:45, 3 Israeli gunboats stationed opposite to al-Waha Resort in the northern Gaza Strip besieged a fishing boat belonging to Zaki Khalil Abu 'Ouda, 48, from al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, when the fishing boats exceeded the warning signs placed by the Israeli navy.  They ordered the five fishermen who were on the boat to follow them towards the Israeli Ashdod Harbor.  At the approximately 22:30, IOF released the five fishermen, but the whereabouts of the boat are unknown.

At approximately 05:45, Israeli gunboats opened fire at a umber of Palestinian fishing boats opposite to al-Waha Resort in the northern Gaza Strip.  No casualties were reported.
